These Chinese platforms must explain how they enable the reporting of illegal products, avoid deceptive interfaces, protect minors, ensure transparency in product recommendations, and maintain seller traceability.<\/p>\n

These requirements stem from the Digital Services Act (DSA), in force since February 17. The companies' responses are expected by July 12. Temu and Shein have affirmed their commitment to fully cooperate with the Commission.<\/p>\n

While these requests do not yet constitute a formal accusation, they represent a preliminary step that could lead to an investigation and financial penalties in case of non-compliance. Brussels has added Temu and Shein to the list of 24 major digital platforms subject to enhanced scrutiny under the DSA, alongside Amazon, AliExpress, Google Shopping, Facebook, X, and Instagram.<\/p>\n

Shein, founded in 2012, is often criticized for its social and environmental practices. Temu, launched in 2015 as the international version of Pinduoduo, offers a wide range of low-cost products.
